About the Author

Ravi Baboolal

Horror that hides in systems.

Ravi Baboolal is a robotics and AI systems engineer based in Cambridge, Ontario. By day he works on autonomous machines; by night he writes about the systems we've built that seem to run us back.

He is the founder of BotBrawl, Canada's combat-robotics league, and has spent more than a decade as a tabletop Dungeon Master — a background steeped in Call of Cthulhu and the antimemetic register of horror, where the threat is the thing you can't quite hold in your head. That sensibility runs straight through his fiction: the monster is never in the room, but the room was always its.

The Conceptual Predator — Book One of the Accumulativis Cycle — is his debut novel, conceived and written in six months. It reframes cosmic horror as a forensic audit: an alien survey team, picking through the ledgers of a dead economy, discovers that a civilization can be consumed by the emergent logic of its own accounting. Its companion working paper, Stigmergic Predation, lays out the hypothesis in plain terms.

The Cycle continues in the forthcoming novellas The Null Point and Book Two, The Kinetic Exile.
